Club Time Trials

Pictured above, John Blower sets off on one of the club time trials. Look it's fun, I'm sure that's a smile on John's face.

Club time trials are events organised and run by the Walsall Roads Cycling Club. The events are open to members of the Walsall Roads Cycling Club and members of other cycling clubs (depending on numbers). All time trials are held on the date in the club fixture list below and in accordance with CTT regulations. Only members officially entered will be handicapped. To enter these events, riders can turn up on the day of the event and MUST sign the official CTT 'signing on' sheet prior to starting an event. A small fee of £2.00 (from 2008) per rider, per event is charged. For the purpose of handicapping in Club events only, all performances in Private Trials (other club events, other than Walsall Roads Cycling Club) will be ignored.

Tuesday evening club time trials start on the A449 near Gailey. These events run weekly from May to August and for 2010 all will be 10 miles and 25 miles.   Previously these events were run as an Inter-Club Competition with Wolverhampton Wheelers which was won by WRCC in 2003, 2002, 1998 and 1997. The Wheelers have won the competition in 2001, 2000 and 1999.

You DO NOT need a fancy time trial bike to ride these events, any road bike is acceptable.

Hill Climbs

These events are held in October each year and take on some of the toughest climbs over Cannock Chase. See club notice board or website for dates and times. All hill climbs are held on the date in the club fixtures list below and in accordance with CTT regulations. To enter these events, riders can turn up on the day of the event and MUST sign the official RTTC 'signing on' sheet prior to starting an event. A small fee of £2.00 (2008 onwards) per rider, per event is charged.

Sunday Club Runs

Well spotted, we are on the wrong side of the road here, because this is a shot from Majorca. Check out those white shorts, who would wear a pair of those?

Sunday club runs meet at 9am at the Turf Public House on the A5. These rides vary from 50miles to 70miles and include a café stop, naturally! The average speed is only 16mph, hence all abilities are welcome!

Saturday Club Runs

Regular rides are organised on Saturdays. These rides meet at 8:30am in Great Wyrley and are slightly faster and longer rides, often over 70 miles. Talk to member on the Friday club night for more information.

Track Training

Regular track training days are organised by the Wolverhampton Wheelers Cycling Club at the Aldersley Leisure Village. Wednesdays nights start at 7:00pm throughout the year and is open to all ages and abilities and on road machines during the winter months and changing to track bikes as the start of track league season approaches. Friday nights start at 6:30pm and are aimed more at the younger rider using road bikes overseen by club coaches.   This session is as much about learning the skills and fun of riding the track as well as gaining fitness and speed. See the Wolverhampton Wheelers Website for further information.

Social Events

The club meets every Friday night at 9pm at the Scout Hut, Middlemore Lane, Aldridge. Other social events are organised throughout the year, these are typically Curry nights, Christmas dinner rides, annual prize presentation dinner and dance and youth hostel weekend rides.

Majorca

Nearly there, above a couple of riders snake their way to the top of the light house in Majorca.

Each year many of the clubs members fly to Majorca for a week or mores cycling in March. This fabulous, Mediterranean Island off the Coast of Spain offers you everything you need for successful spring training: flat terrain, rolling hills, long climbs in a beautiful landscape with extremely low automotive traffic. Any club member will be able to offer more information.

Above, John Blower leads out Stuart Walker at the top of another climb in Majorca. I'm not so sure John is smiling this time though.
